A source in the Tigris Valley revealed that the club’s management decided to dismiss the Greek coach, Takis Junias, after the team received a seventh loss on Friday in the current Egyptian Premier League season.
The source, who declined to be named, toldFilGoal.com: “We have decided on the departure of Junias.”
“The coach will not resign, we will negotiate with him a financial value to terminate the contract by mutual consent,” he added.
Although the team trailed the league by just 6 points after 11 rounds, the 48-year-old coach refused to throw the handkerchief after falling in front of its guest Al-Jaish 3-1 on Friday.
He stressed that he will not resign from the leadership of the team because he believes that the results will improve, as happened to the Tigris last season. (the details)
The administration fears that the team will drop to the second division if the negative results persist. In this season, the Tigris achieved only one victory, which was surprising to the Arab contractors.
The management’s confidence in Junias was without limits and was patient with the team last season, which was finished by the Tigris X in the league standings.
Club owner Majid Sami said before that “Junias fits the Tigris philosophy and we aimed with him to enter the golden box of the league within 3 years.”
The source pointed out that the Tigris will assign the mission to Younes Zerdouc, the Moroccan coach of the 2001 team born in the club and the coach of the Comoros team, and will be assisted by the Algerian Mustafa Karroubi, former director of the JMG Academy.
The source said: “Al-Kharoubi and Zerdouk witnessed the first-leg match of the army from the stadium,” indicating that the meeting was the last opportunity for Junias to continue as the team’s coach.
The Tigris has not returned to the second division since his rise to the Premier League in 2010, and the best position he occupied in the Premier League was the fifth in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
The yellow and black team is visiting Smouha on Wednesday in round 12 of the league.
