Hazem Imam, the former star of Zamalek and Egypt, revealed why he did not go on for long and decided to stop after the 2007-08 season.

Hazem said on the Zamalek channel: “At that time the club was contracting with players who were not of Zamalek’s value.”

“At the same time my age was getting older, and people held the big players responsible.”

Hazem, 45, continued, “In my last season, I felt that the next season would not be good. The financial conditions are difficult in the club and the fans are not satisfied with me. If the team was standing firmly on its feet, I would have continued for three or four other seasons.”

Hazem ended his football career at the end of the 2007-2008 season, in which Zamalek was crowned Egypt Cup title at the expense of Enppi.

The former pharaohs playmaker spent 10 seasons in Zamalek, 3 before professionalizing in Europe and 7 after returning to Egypt in 2001.

Hazem crowned 13 titles with Zamalek.
