Muhammad Abdullah, a former Al-Ahly player, compared Rennie Fyler, the current coach of the team, to Manuel Jose, the most successful coach in the history of the Red Fort.
Feiler is on a steady streak in the Egyptian Premier League, which he leads with the full score after winning 12 matches, recalling Al-Ahly’s victorious march with Jose Jose 15 years ago.
Abdullah played in one of the best periods of Al-Ahly in his history (from 2005 to 2007), and believes that the quality of players and the strength of competition differ from the past.
Abdullah said on Time Sports on Monday: “The competition in the league now is not as strong as the past.”
Abdullah, 38, added, “Jose had a team, the players of all of Egypt, and Africa was not as strong at the present time.”
“Jose was lucky with the team that has, with my respect for the present generation, not like ours.”
“Al-Ahly plays a fun ball with Fyler, a team team that has many offensive solutions, while Jose has players like Mohamed Abu Trika, Mohamed Barakat, Amadou Flavio and Gilberto.”
Al-Ahly is preparing to face its guest star, ES Sahel, on Sunday in the fifth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Al-Ahly will enter the match in search of victory to enhance its chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
