Speculation regarding the arrival of Pierre Gasly at Alpine F1 continues to mount. AlphaTauri initially wanted, according to Helmut Marko, to absolutely keep the Frenchman until the end of 2023, but since then things have changed.
Admittedly, Red Bull failed to obtain the super license for Colton Herta but the Nyck De Vries track is now being studied. The Dutchman, who tested an Alpine F1 from last year this week, should land in one of these two teams, Williams being, logically, only his 3rd choice.
For the Frenchman, nothing has changed since Monza but he admits things are still happening behind the scenes.
“At the moment, it’s out of my control,” he tells us.
“These guys (at AlphaTauri) gave me my first F1 victory and my first chance in Formula 1. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stay there all my life because my ambitions in Formula 1 are to fight ahead , and that’s what I want.”
“It’s been five years at AlphaTauri. We’ll see if I do another year there, but at the moment that’s what’s planned. If that’s what happens, I’ll give my 110 per cent to this team. “
“There are a few things that need to be clarified before we talk more about my situation. And in my situation there are only positives. We will see what happens in the next few weeks.”
