No fewer than four teachers at the De Veldhof primary school in the town of Eygelshoven tested positive for the corona virus. Someone from the GGD in South Limburg has confirmed this to 1Limburg.
The four members of staff have been quarantined. All other De Veldhof employees are tested to see if they also have the virus among the members. One group has already been tested, the others will be tested no later than Friday.
Christian Hoebe, professor and head of infectious disease control at GGD Zuid-Limburg, does not see the positive cases as a surprise. “That can happen at this stage. That is why we are brief about it and we do contact research sources. ”
Only after the results of those tests have been received will possible further steps be considered. Hoebe does not yet want to say whether this could lead to the schools being closed. “That is speculation. The investigation is still ongoing, so it is a bit premature to go into what is possible or not. ”
The results of the hygiene research at De Veldhof have already been received. That study examined whether the school had prepared well with precautionary measures. And they all did well, ”says Hoebe.
Primary schools opened last week. Still, an estimated 55,000 students didn’t come to their first day of school in two months last week. “Many schools are concerned about guiding these students if the entire team is already deployed to organize daily school education,” said Petra van Haren, chairman of the General Association of School Leaders.
