The images of the cathedral of Notre-Dame in flames have been all over the world. Symbol of Paris, the most visited historical monument of Europe has received tributes from all over the world, especially from cartoonists and illustrators, who have attracted the shock and sadness of seeing the monument partially destroyed by fire.
Quasimodo cries for his cathedral
One of the most shared was made by the Ecuadorian artist Cristina Correra Freile, we see the Disney Quasimodo in tears, embracing the Madonna.
Quasimodo, the guardian of the towers in Victor Hugo's work is still evoked by the Dutch illustrator Ruben L. Oppenheimer. From the top of one of the towers, his "sanctuary" draws the shape of the character in the flames.
The Eiffel Tower at Notre-Dame
In another drawing by Aurélie Pedrajas, the Eiffel Tower arrives at the bedside of Notre-Dame. "It will be my beauty", runs the Iron Lady.
"A drawing made to support Notre-Dame de Paris by clinging to the hope that it will remain standing, so sad tonight", writes the artist on Twitter.
Other illustrators represented the broken heart of Paris, separating the two towers, symbol of the capital or of the famous gargoyles of the monument, contemplating the building in flames.
