Two young French police officers were seriously injured on Monday evening after a motorist in the municipality of Colombes intentionally drove into them. According to regional president Valérie Pécresse of the nearby region of Île-de-France, this is a terrorist attack.
The two officers were hospitalized. Both would be in very bad shape. The suspect, who is believed to have acted from Islamic beliefs, is detained.
Local newspaper Le Parisien writes that the suspect was caught by the officers when he did not stop his scooter at a traffic control. Elsewhere, he would have traded his scooter for a car and hit the officers at high speed.
According to initial reports, this concerns the 29-year-old Youssef T. Le Parisien reports based on sources that he had seen a video about Palestine just before the attack.
A letter was subsequently found in his car calling on a team from the French counterterrorism team. However, the investigation is officially still in the hands of the regular police force. French police have not yet confirmed the claims of the local newspaper. Nothing is yet known about a motif.
