With a significant increase in the price of purchased heat energy, which was affected by the increase in the price of natural gas, an increase in the heat energy tariff is expected by 27%, JSC “Rīgas siltums” informed.

From September 1, 2021, the heat energy tariff will be 57.31 euros per megawatt hour, which is an increase of 12.04 euros or 27%.
The main supplier of purchased heat energy, AS Latvenergo, has already informed about the planned price increase.
Other independent heat producers are also expected to increase heat prices.
The draft heat tariff of “Rīgas siltuma” will still be evaluated by the Public Utilities Commission, the joint stock company was informed.
Only variable costs increase in the heat energy tariff, ie the prices of purchased heat energy, other sections of the tariff have remained low, the company explained.
Calls for saving energy
“Rīgas siltums” indicated that it understands the anxiety of the population due to the rising heat tariff, taking into account also the situation of Covid-19.
“In order for Rigans to feel as little as possible the increase in the heat tariff, we urge managers to carefully evaluate and properly adjust the individual heating units of buildings by reviewing the installed temperature regimes. We also urge residents to actively express heat bill by 5%, “says the company.
The company promised to provide free consultations to improve the operation of individual heating units in terms of efficiency.
“Rīgas siltums” also called for the creation of a savings fund for customers who have difficulties paying for heat already now.
