The 2023 edition of the Tour of Italy cycling will begin on May 6 with an 18.4km time trial between Fossacesia Marina and Ortona Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, organizers announced on Wednesday.
The route of the inaugural time trial will be mostly flat before a difficulty in the final to designate the first pink jersey of the Giro 2023 in Abruzzo, along the Adriatic Sea. A chrono that could attract Remco Evenepoelfreshly world champion, who has not yet chosen which grand tour he will participate in 2023.
The organizers also unveiled the route of the 2nd stage which will be run over 204km between Teramo and San Salvo with a finish designed for the sprinters.
In addition to the first two stages, the Giro organization has also announced that the arrival of the 7th stage will be at the top of Campo Imperatore, located in the Gran Sasso massif, in the Apennines.
This year the Australian Jai Hindley (BORA-hansgrohe) won the Giro ahead of the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz and the Spanish Mikel Landa.
