PALERMO – The parties, the presidents of the subsidiaries, the new council groups, the leaders of the Municipality: these are intense days for the new mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla, who while on the one hand has to deal with “hot” issues such as the Bellolampo emergency and the organization of the Festino, on the other hand works hard to complete the puzzle of political appointments. The new municipal council will take office only at the end of July, which gives the former rector an abundant month to match all the cards that include the names of the councilors, the presidency of Sala delle Tombidi but also the boards of the investee companies and top positions of bureaucracy.
The totonomi of the junta
All eyes are focused on the junta, even if in the negotiations with the parties it will be necessary to bring back the subsidiaries from which, in turn, the outgoing presidents must resign (in any case almost all expired or expiring); only then will it be possible to define the picture. In the meantime, however, the totonomi goes crazy, with the quotations of the eligible candidates rising and falling according to the mood of the day. Forza Italia focuses on Rosi Nib, Aristide Tamajo e Andrea Mineoin addition to the presidency of the council for Giulio Tantillowhich would cut it off Francesco Cascio; Brothers of Italy should have the deputy mayor, with Carolina Varchi which could give way to Giampiero Cinnamon (which, however, could not stand as a candidate for the Regionals), but the group headed by the MEP is also stomping around Giuseppe Milazzowho elected three councilors (including Milazzo himself), and that of the citizen coordinator Francesco Scarpinatowith Diventerà Bellissima who could stay at the post.
Technicians for Urban Planning and Budget
A place should also go to the Renzians, with Davide Faraone who would have spoken just yesterday with Lagalla, while the Urban Planning and Budget boxes would seem destined for the mayor’s trusted technicians: the first, except for twists, should go to Maurizio Carta (who has now distanced himself from the Pharaohs and is considered a pure technician), while for the second the names of Salvatore Cincimino e Armando Cuva. These are two well-known and well-known university professors whom Lagalla would have asked for a hand to extricate themselves in the complex affair of the accounts of the Municipality and who would have already taken part in some meetings; Cuva is a tributary while Cincimino is an expert in local authorities, which could make the final choice fall on him.
The rebus in the Lega house
Another box to be filled is that of the League which managed to overcome the barrier of 5% for less than 400 votes: a result lower than expected, but which the leaders still consider a step forward compared to 2017. The fact is that the Operation “PrimaItalia” did not take off, which did not prevent Matteo Salvini’s party from winning three seats.
The problem is that the performance of candidates close to some big names has aroused more than an internal controversy, emerged in the meeting in Mondello with the leader made even more sparkling by the prospect, announced by Salvini, of an agreement for the Regionals with the UDC: if the barrier were overcome, only one seat would be triggered in Palermo and there is more than an outgoing who would be starting to look around to look for safer shores, given that the heavyweight names of the Musumeci junta could land in the scudocrociato. “There is still nothing certain, the dialogue is open with the UDC but also with other subjects at the national level”, says a party leader and the reference is to both the autonomists and the Renzians. Salvini wants at all costs to enter the next regional assembly and an electoral cartel, at the moment, seems the only possibility.
A risk that inevitably intertwines with internal negotiations for the name of the only councilor to be indicated in Lagalla: the League could focus on productive activities, on greenery but also on cemeteries, given Salvini’s two visits to the Rotoli and the commitment to get two million euros to Palermo, although the latter hypothesis makes many turn up their noses. “We are discussing to identify a criterion, once we have established that we will also decide the name”, explains a big name in the Sicilian Carroccio. The meeting with the mayor is scheduled for Monday but the names in the field are not so many, even if at the moment there are two hypotheses: either a transitional councilor, waiting for the Regionals that would sanction the internal power relations, or a politician of weight which, however, agrees to renounce the next elections for Ars. The commissioner designated in the election campaign is Goofy Phallicbut the name of the outgoing group leader and second of the non-elected has also been mentioned in the press Igor Geda who has been very involved in the issue of cemeteries; the surprise name, however, could be that of Sabrina Figucciabefore the elect and, unlike Marianna Caronianot a candidate for the Regionals (where her brother Vincenzo will race instead).
