In the last two days, in said municipality 47 positive cases were detected. As part of the measure, 10 medical cabins will be deployed. In addition, Bukele asked Salud to carry out massive screenings in San Francisco Gotera and San Miguel starting this weekend.
Authorities of the Ministry of Health, Defense and the Police began on Thursday night the deployment of a sanitary fence in the municipality of Corinto, department of Morazán, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the past two days.
“No one will be able to leave or enter the municipality. Neither of the houses, unless it is to carry out the test or for a medical need ”, published in his Twitter account the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, who did not clarify how long the measure will be implemented.
The president said that he ordered the sanitary fence after 25 positive cases were registered in Corinto on Wednesday, September 16, and 22 more were added this Thursday, for a total of 47 new cases out of 300 tests carried out in the area.
“Which would indicate that more than 15% of the population could be infected. If this is the case, we would be facing an outbreak of the virus, in the east of our country. Although there is a possibility that this is not the case, since the sample was taken in one place. In addition to the fact that many people who are going to be tested, it is because they suspect they have the virus, ”the president wrote.
Bukele justified the sanitary fence by arguing that “such a large outbreak” can spread rapidly to the surrounding areas and cause a second epidemiological wave.
The decision of the fence is accompanied by the distribution of 10 medical cabins in different parts of the municipality and cwith a provision of 1,000 PCR tests.
Doctors will also be sent to examine the population, 1,000 drug kits, 20,000 masks and 6,000 food packages.
Francisco Alabí, Minister of Health, together with the Minister of Defense and the Director of Police, traveled to the municipality on Thursday night to begin with the closure of accesses and control the entrance. The National Hospital of San Francisco Morazán will be available to attend to the cases.

“With the results of the 1,000 additional tests, which we will carry out tomorrow, we will be able to make the best decision, to safeguard the life and health of the people of Corinto and of all Salvadorans, that we cannot have another epidemiological wave. The siege begins at this moment ”, concluded the publication.
In addition, Bukele asked the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, to carry out massive screenings in San Francisco Gotera and San Miguel from this weekend, to know the “movement” of the virus. The president gave this indication in response via Twitter to the doctor Ricardo Quiñónez, who recommended these screenings because the inhabitants of Corinto usually travel to Gotera and San Miguel as part of their commercial activities.
According to official data in Morazán there are a total of 400 positive cases of COVID-19 and at 10:00 pm this Thursday there were 40 cases only in Corinto.
