Marijke Groenewoud was declared the winner of the Aart Koopmans Memorial on the Weissensee on Friday. The marathon skater had appealed the red card she received after the jury.
The KNSB’s disciplinary committee ruled that the red cards of Groenewoud and Carien Kleibeuker were unfounded. According to the committee, unfair and unsportsmanlike behavior of the two skaters has not been proven.
Groenewoud won the marathon on natural ice at the end of January, but was removed from the result later today. According to the KNSB, the skater of Team ZiuZ accepted illicit help from Team Royal A rider Kleibeuker.
The jury proceeded to take the measure on the basis of its own observations, protests and statements by Groenewoud itself. The 21-year-old Groenewoud and the 42-year-old Kleibeuker appealed to the KNSB against that decision and were successful.
As a result, Manon Kamminga loses her victory again. She is now entering the books as number two, behind Groenewoud. Kleibeuker is the number fourteen in the result.
