Irapuato.- After January 23 it will not be possible to stay in green traffic light, declared the secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Daniel Diaz Martinez according to the overall behavior of the fourth wave of Covid-19, which until this Thursday maintained 9 thousand 503 active cases.

“After the 23rd it will not be possible, everything is possible and probable, but it will not be possible to stay green, given the behavior that has occurred worldwide”, for which he estimated that at the end of the month it will return to a yellow traffic light, as well as states in the center-south of the country.

Although the epidemiological panorama is not the same as last year, when there were about 24,000 infections, Guanajuato has already exceeded the 7,200 cases that occurred during December, the secretary explained.

In the first 12 days of January, the number of covid-19 infections in Guanajuato is 24 percent higher than that registered during the entire month of December. This January there are 9 thousand 07 new cases detected of covid, when in all of December there were 7 thousand 221; however, the number of deaths from January 1 to 12 amounts to 126, when in the previous month there were 322.

However, the secretary highlighted that if the numbers that are being reported in January 2022 are compared with those that were reported in the same month of 2021, the scenario is more positive: 62 percent fewer cases detected and 95 percent fewer deaths.

He even highlighted that Guanajuato, despite being the sixth most populous entity, is located in 22nd place in the covid fatality rate, and in 20th regarding the number of active cases, with 8,446.

Likewise, the state official highlighted that three out of four patients hospitalized or who have died from covid had not been vaccinated, had an incomplete schedule, were over 70 years of age or had some comorbidity factor.

Daniel Díaz also recommended that adults 70 years of age or older, who have a risk factor or who are not vaccinated, do not go to the Leon Fair or any other massive event.

No vaccine for children under 14 years

The secretary announced that this Thursday the vaccination for adolescents from 14 to 17 years of age will begin, with a total of 208,000 to be applied in 60 application centers.

Daniel Díaz estimated that in Guanajuato there are about a million children in this age group, and there are between six and seven percent who decided not to get vaccinated.

However, the secretary commented that for children from 12 to 14 years of age there are no vaccines for this sector, despite the request that the SSG has made to the Federal Government.

He added that although in other countries children over five years of age are already being vaccinated, the country does not have a public policy aimed at serving this sector of the population, even though infections are occurring for these children, much less There are vaccines for children under five years of age, since the effects for this sector of the population have not yet been demonstrated.
