Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema once again shows her compassion from her ivory tower. Apparently she is completely unaware of what is going on or how the news about the murder of 24-year-old Bas is perceived in parts of society. She throws a silly poem on Instagram, adds a meaningless message and quickly turns off the comments, because that #RightnessforBasspam is just annoying.
It is deeply sad that such a murder is being politicized, but something cannot always be done about it. When it happens, it can sometimes still be managed properly. If you can reasonably sense people, that is. Well, that really goes wrong here!
To the left of the screenshot you can see the sad and downright worthless poem by ‘Stadsdichter van Amsterdam’ Gershwin Bonevacia, written with the same goal in mind. It is about how a random song on the radio (Forever Young) suddenly made him think of Bas, who might also have ‘wanted to live forever’. Yes really. Stop it …
Halsema’s ‘fraternizing’ message somehow makes things even worse. “All murders are bad, but this one was really bad, just look at our city poet!” It soon became clear that little of that ‘fraternization’ came true, because the comments were immediately turned off. Doesn’t look like anything at all, such a message.
