Spokesperson for vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said the Omicron variant did not increase the severity of symptoms in those infected. Symptoms will tend to be milder if you are fully vaccinated.
“What we know is that this Omicron variant, although quickly transmitted, does not increase the severity. Especially in individuals who have been vaccinated,” explained Dr. Nadia.
One of the doctors from South Africa who first detected the Omicron variant also said that some of the symptoms that appeared in patients tended to be mild and could be treated at home.
However, the symptoms tend to be unusual. Doctors said there were no symptoms of COVID-19 infection such as anosmia or sore throat in patients infected with the Omicron variant.
Symptoms of the Omicron variant:
- Muscle ache
- Extreme fatigue
- Feeling unwell
One way to prevent transmission of the Omicron variant is to wear a mask. Surgical, cloth and N95 masks are still effective against the Omicron variant.
