Hesse: man dies after police search of his apartment

ein 38-year-old from Hattersheim am Main has died from initially unclear circumstances, after police had searched his apartment a few hours earlier. A cousin found the man dead in his apartment on Saturday morning, reported the news portal of the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR), hessenschau.de.

After the search on Friday night, the suspect is said to have spread photos of his injuries via WhatsApp and accused police of mistreatment. The investigation may have been about drug trafficking. A family lawyer has filed criminal charges for police violence, HR reports.

The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation into the events, but on Sunday did not want to comment on the details and allegations against the police. One wait for the result of the autopsy, said a spokeswoman for the authorities. The police headquarters West Hesse had denied a connection between the search and the death of the 38-year-old.
