Wiesbaden – The CDU parliamentary group leader Michael Boddenberg will be the successor to the one who died unexpectedly last Saturday (March 28, 2020) Thomas Schafer (CDU). This is what the Hessischer Rundfunk announces first.
Prime Minister introduced on Tuesday afternoon Volker Bouffier (CDU) Boddenberg in a press conference before the public. He takes over the leadership of the Hessian Ministry of Finance.
Hessian finance minister: Boddenberg paid tribute to Thomas Schäfer
Prime Minister Volker Bouffier introduced Boddenberg at 1 p.m. in Wiesbaden in a video booth and presented the certificate of appointment to the CDU politician.
Next Friday (April 3, 2020) the Hessian state parliament come together for a special meeting and legitimize the replacement of the post in accordance with Article 101 of the State Constitution.
Michael Boddenberg is considered a confidante of Volker Bouffier
Michael Boddenberg, 60, has been the Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.
Before that he was Hessian Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Plenipotentiary of the State of Hesse to the Federal Government. He is considered a confidante of the Prime Minister of Hesse Volker Bouffier.
Suicide by Thomas Schäfer shocked Germany – new finance minister appointed
The previous incumbent Thomas Schäfer died at the age of 54. According to the latest findings, the investigators assume suicide.
Thomas Schäfer was as Bouffier successor been traded. In an obituary, Boddenberg had honored Schäfer as a “great colleague” and trusting friend.
Thomas Schafer had been very worried about the corona crisis
Prime Minister Bouffier reported on Sunday of Schäfer’s concerns about the corona crisis and its consequences. He worked until the end to manage this crisis organizationally and financially.
Thomas Schäfer’s death caused great dismay
“I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” said the Prime Minister. “Obviously he couldn’t find a way out. He was desperate and left us. ”
Schäfer’s death was a great loss for the state of Hesse. “We would have needed him especially in such a difficult time,” said Bouffier.
