Igor Girkin: Putin risks being overthrown in a coup. It will trigger chaos and civil war

A military defeat could lead to a pro-Western coup

Girkin has warned several times that the once so powerful Russia probably facing a military defeat in Ukraine. That is why he is now mobilizing forces willing to challenge the Kremlin regime, which he believes has failed completely during the military campaign against the neighboring country.

“Angry patriots” are made up of nationalists, military analysts and politicians who are thoroughly fed up with how the Russian army operates under Putin’s “special operation”. The group fears that a military defeat could lead to a pro-Western coup and a Russian civil war.

Believes the Russian leadership has failed

Therefore, they are now going to great lengths to motivate parts of the Russian population who believe that the military and political leaders have failed.

The new alliance could be perceived as a dangerous threat to Putin and his leadership, but there have not yet been official reactions to the news of “Angry Patriots”.

Girkin, also known as Igor Strelkov, is a prominent Russian nationalist and former FSB officer. He was central during the war in the Donbas region of Ukraine in 2014 when the war against Ukraine formally started. During the nearly 15-month-long war, he has repeated his harsh criticism of the lack of Russian progress.

ISW: Will establish branches throughout Russia

According to the think tank Institute for the study of war (ISW) “Angry Patriots” plans to establish a network of regional branches throughout Russia.

At the same time, Girkin encourages politicians, opinion leaders and leaders of Russian organizations to join the organization.

A press conference is planned in Moscow in June. At the top of the agenda is: “How Russia can win the war in Ukraine”. According to ISW, Girkin’s goal is to increase his influence and take up the fight against the political leadership of the Kremlin.

May end with Putin being overthrown

The same has Wagner Group’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, stated. He has announced that he has ambitions to climb all the way to the top of the Russian hierarchy and run for president. Lately, he has made very venomous criticism of the Russian defense leadership. He is still considered a close Putin ally.

The group “Angry Patriots” believes that a Russian civil war is a real scenario if Russia loses the war. According to Girkin, the natural consequence will then be that opposition forces in Russia will carry out a political and military coup, which will ultimately end with Vladimir Putin being overthrown.
