Authorities reported nearly 3,000 new cases of coronaviruses in Illinois on Sunday, while also indicating that the state set a new record for the number of COVID-19 tests performed in a single day.
According to data from the governor’s office, the state conducted 19,417 coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours, breaking the previous high of a single day. Total testing for the state is now 319,313 testing since the pandemic began.
A total of 2,994 new cases of the virus were reported on Sunday, bringing the total number to 61,499.
Approximately 15.4% of tests on Sunday yielded positive diagnoses of COVID-19, according to statistics provided by officials.
Illinois reported an additional 63 deaths, bringing the statewide death toll to 2,618.
