The images are impressive. We see a massive fire that broke out in an industrial area in Knokke-Heist around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Kneisti-Krant, a local newspaper, the rescue services responded in time. The fire broke out behind the Warnier garden center and the company’s 18 employees were able to leave the premises unharmed. On the other hand, the site is a field of ruin: some 70,000 m² caught fire.
It was only around 5 p.m. that the flames were brought under control. The industrial site, however, is still inaccessible. At 7:30 p.m., the emergency phase was officially over. The firefighters are still checking that the neighborhood is not disturbed and will stay until the end of the evening.
As for the circumstances of the incident, the mayor Piet De Groote admitted to being in the unknown at present. “The reasons for this fire are not yet clear. Further research will shed light on this incident.”
For safety, local residents should always keep windows and doors closed.
