In 3 years, Kylian Mbappé could earn the equivalent of 12,000 years of minimum wage

The precise amount of salary and bonuses that Kylian Mbappé managed to negotiate to re-stack three years at PSG is not yet known in detail. In the first hours, very different estimates circulated, ranging from 300 to 600 million euros for his entire salary package.

For the program “Déclic”, we carried out a small calculation based on the figures given by The Parisian. According to the French daily, the negotiated conditions would be as follows:

  • 100 million euros signing bonus
  • 50 million euros net annual salary (over three years)
  • 100% of his image rights

Therefore, if we add up the bonuses and salaries and add the advertising revenues which could rise, depending on The evening, at some 30 million euros (after taxes) per year, we arrive at the sum of 340 million euros over three years.

Let’s then divide this amount by the equivalent of one year’s minimum wage in Belgium (28,523.89 € gross)… And we practically arrive at the figure of 12,000! Kylian Mbappé could therefore win in 3 years what a Belgian employee, paid the minimum wage, would earn in 12,000 years. Numbers that make you dizzy.

So is this an insult to football? How can PSG afford such amounts? Are the fairness and beauty of sporting competition threatened?
