In Călărași, the epidemiological situation regarding acute viral respiratory infections and influenza is not exactly rosy

The epidemiological situation with acute viral respiratory infections and influenza is not exactly rosy in Călărași. In the first two weeks of 2023 in the Călărași district, an increase in the number of cases of acute viral respiratory infections was recorded, and the number of cases of flu and Covid-19 is maintained at a relatively constant level.

According to Vera Lefter, epidemiologist at the Public Health Center, Călăraşi, in the week of January 2-8, 2023, 136 cases of acute respiratory infections, 7 cases of Covid-19 and 3 cases of seasonal flu were registered. In the week of January 9-15, 2022, 166 cases of acute respiratory infections, 6 cases of Covid-19 and no cases of flu have already been registered.

A child from Călăraşi district, infected with Covid-19, was hospitalized with complications at the Mother and Child Center in Chisinau, where he is under the supervision of doctors.

At the same time, a first suspicious case of Flurona appeared in Călăraşi the other day – simultaneous infection with COVID-19 and the flu virus. It is about a 52-year-old patient, with several comorbidities, who was admitted to the Department of Contagious Diseases of the District Hospital. Samples have been taken and the results are currently awaited.

According to the epidemiologist, the situation is quite alarming, and in the context of the winter holidays that have just passed and which brought people together, the number of new illnesses may increase rapidly.

“We emphasize the importance of continuing to comply with disease prevention measures, such as: avoiding crowds; wearing protective masks; respecting the distance from people who cough or sneeze; periodic airing of the rooms; observing hand hygiene, cough and sneeze etiquette; flu vaccination,” Vera Lefter pointed out.

For the timely initiation of treatment, the doctors of the Public Health Center recommend that people consult their family doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms specific to respiratory infections – fever, cough, sneezing, headache, or weakness.

Regarding influenza vaccination, 445 doses of vaccine remained unused in the district out of the 6,400 received at the end of last year. “In most localities stocks have run out. There are still reserves left in the village of Vălcineț, in the commune of Tuzara and in the city of Călărași, where there are still difficulties in this regard”, concluded Vera Lefter.
