IN PICTURE. King Willem-Alexander and family pose together for annual summer photo session | Royalty

RoyaltyThe summer photo session of King Willem-Alexander (55), Queen Máxima (51) and the princesses Amalia (18), Alexia (16) and Ariane (15) is in full swing in the hall of Noordeinde Palace in the Dutch city of The Hague. Due to the bad weather, the location last minute still changed.

The summer photo session would normally take place at the beach bar La Cantina, but the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) had issued code yellow for a large part of the Netherlands, including South Holland, on Friday. According to the institute, there was a chance of rain, thunderstorms and gusts of wind. Due to bad weather conditions, the shoot was moved from Zuiderstrand in The Hague to Noordeinde Palace.

The same size

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and their three daughters arrived at Noordeinde Palace a few minutes before 2 p.m. They then went up the stairs to the rear vestibule where about a hundred members of the Dutch press were waiting for them. The session started with a family photo. Striking detail? The three princesses now all seem to be the same height as their mother Máxima. Even when Willem-Alexander poses next to his daughter Amalia, there is almost no difference in height. According to the Dutch king, his eldest daughter is still slightly smaller. Even if it is only a few centimeters away. After taking the photos, the royal couple spoke to the press. It is the first time that Princess Amalia also speaks.

Fashion expert and royalty expert Josine Droogendijk traditionally researched what the royals wear. Máxima shines in an asymmetrical dress by Altuzarra, Amalia wears Diane von Furstenberg. Her sisters Alexia and Ariane chose a blouse and trousers from Sandro and a white dress from Sandro as well.

It is the first photo session since June last year. There was no time during the winter sports holiday in Lech in February. The Government Information Service reported at the time that the Oranges only wanted to be photographed if the family is complete. The RVD also stated that the photo sessions are no longer linked to winter and summer holidays. Princess Alexia, for example, was unable to come to Lech last winter because of her studies in Wales. As a result, the Government Information Service would now choose other times for the photo sessions.

In the past, the summer photo session often took place in the garden of Huis ten Bosch palace or Villa Eikenhorst. Every now and then a different decor is chosen, such as the estate de Horsten, Warmond and the Wassenaarse beach. When the Dutch royals posed in Wassenaar in 2015, their two dogs, Skipper and Nala, were also present.
