iPhone 14 Pro is said to have a 48-megapixel camera

A new report has confirmed previous rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro will switch to a 48-megapixel main camera. It would only be the third time that the resolution of the main iPhone camera has been increased. From the iPhone 4 on the 4S it went from 5 to 8 megapixels, from iPhone 6 on the 6s from 8 to 12 megapixels.

Apple may need the higher resolution to offer 8K video recording on its Pro models. Depending on the situation, the full resolution does not always have to be used. A portrait or landscape image might require more megapixels, while in low light a 12-megapixel image could be saved after pixel binning.

The well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has one several times 48 megapixel main camera brought into play with the iPhone 14 Pro. Also, in his opinion, a periscope zoom keeps up with the iPhone 15 moving in in 2023.

As for the front of the iPhone 14, at least two reports claim that Apple has the Notch in favor of a punch hole will give up. This should either hold a single camera or accommodate two in a pill-shaped module with integrated FaceID. All rumors on the subject can be found in our iPhone 14 Pro overview.
