Can Harley Bennell end up in Sydney? Image: AFL Photos
SYDNEY is exploring the opportunity to recruit the former Fremantle and Gold Coast Harley Bennell midfielder for 2020.
AFL.com.au understands that the Swans have contacted Bennell in recent weeks and are evaluating his medical history while weighing becoming a player of three teams.
After a four-year tenure in the Dockers who cashed two games, the 26-year-old was subjected to surgery in Brisbane last month in an attempt to correct his calf injury history.
Any move for Bennell would cost nothing to a club with its services arriving as a cleared free agent.
The Dockers separated from the talented midfielder on 15 July, but he remained adamant and had more to offer.
"I will not retire at this stage," Bennell said.
"I will work hard to reshape my calf injury in order to give me a chance to have another crack in playing for an AFL club."
Before opting for membership in the Dockers, he spoke with several clubs including a meeting with Damien Hardwick and Richmond at Punt Road in the Grand Final week 2015.
Bennell spent five seasons at the Gold Coast from 2011-2015 for 81 games and 92 goals before returning to the west.
