Israel and Palestine have agreed a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It is reported by Reuters, citing the Palestinian authorities.
The contract was concluded through the mediation of Egypt. The silence mode started working on Monday 6 May at 4.30 am (time coincides with Moscow time). This information was confirmed by the television channel owned by the Palestinian movement Hamas.
On May 5, Israeli defense forces spokesman Jonathan Konrikus said more than 450 missiles had been launched from the Gaza Strip in Israel within 24 hours. In response, the Israeli army attacked 220 Palestinian military targets. He explained that 150 missiles launched were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system and that 70% of the bullets exploded in an uninhabited area.
The next exchange of blows between the parties began on 4 May. Initially, it was learned that the Gaza Strip launched 90 missiles against Israel. It was noted that the bombing lasted more than an hour. Israel has launched a retaliatory attack, using tanks and planes.
The situation on the borders of the Gaza Strip intensified in the spring of 2018 after a peaceful protest intensified in riots and clashes of protesters with Israeli troops. The action was scheduled for Nakba Day – the exodus from the territory, where the State of Israel was created in 1948.
