Experts advising the Israeli Ministry of Health issued a recommendation for the third dose on Wednesday, although they did not agree among themselves whether the so-called “supportive” dose should be started by health professionals in the group over 70, 65 or 60 years of age.
On Thursday, Ash ordered medical facilities to prepare for the third dose starting Sunday of the first day of the week in Israel. The Israeli media writes that the government did not want to wait unnecessarily with the decision.
For the time being, residents over the age of 60 who have received their second benefit at least five months ago are entitled.
Three days in a row over two thousand
Israel will only be the second country in the world to take this decision. At the beginning of July, vaccination with the third dose was launched by Turkey, which began with healthcare professionals and people over the age of 50. Hungary should also start the third dose this Sunday.
In recent days, the Jewish state has been trying to keep a new wave of coronavirus infections in check. While only a few dozen cases were added a day a month ago, now, for three consecutive days, the number of infected people has exceeded two thousand.
According to The Times of Israel, the government decided on the third dose mainly due to the growing number of serious cases, of which there are 159 on Thursday.
“Our strategy is clear: to save lives and protect the normal regime,” Prime Minister Naftali Bennett explained just hours after introducing the Green to Covidpas, which operates on a similar basis to the Czech Dot application.
