Five weeks after the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamasthe director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has denounced before the UN Security Council that Israel has launched 250 attacks against hospitals, clinics or ambulances, both in Gaza like in West Bankwhile Hamas has also attacked Israeli health centers on 25 occasions.

“The health system (in Gaza) is on its knees,” said Ghebreyesus, who illustrated his statement with some facts: “Hospital hallways packed with the wounded, sick or dying; morgues packed; operations without anesthesia and tens of thousands of Gazans displaced and refugees in hospitals”.

The director of the WHO had been invited to explain to the Security Council the situation of the health sector in Gaza after a month of war and highlighted the fact that among the more than 11,000 dead in Gaza, there are a large number of women and children, and gave a terrible piece of information: ““A child dies every ten minutes in Gaza.”.

Half of the 36 hospitals in Gaza and two thirds of health centers “They are already out of service,” the official warned, adding that in the last 48 hours alone four hospitals have been disabled by the bombings.

And despite all this data, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, justified the attacks on hospitals because he said Hamas is hiding in their basements and uses its ambulance network to get around.
