The IT world is losing one of its emblematic figures. Adobe Systems boss Shantanu Narayen said in a statement that Charles “Chuck” Geschke died last Friday at the age of 81 in the US city of Los Altos, California. The causes of his death have not been communicated.

This former university professor of mathematics, who co-founded the company Adobe Systems in 1982, was one of the dads of the famous computer format PDF (for Portable Document Format) in 1992. “As co-founder of Adobe, Chuck and John Warwick (editor’s note the other co-founder) have developed revolutionary software that has transformed the way people create and communicate, ”said the leader. Shantanu Narayen explains that the innovative spirit of “Chuck” has helped bring other important company software to life, such as Acrobat, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and Photoshop.

The man, who was decorated in 2009 with the National Medal for Technology and Innovation by US President Barack Obama, was also the subject of a news item. In 1992, two armed men kidnapped and held him for four days and demanded a ransom of $ 650,000.
