Jakarta. The minimum wage in Jakarta has been increased to 4.26 million Rp, or $ 303, a month for 2020, with an increase of 8.51 percent compared to the current minimum wage, announced on Friday governor Anies Baswedan.
"The new provincial minimum wage has been set in accordance with existing government laws and regulations," he told the Municipality of Central Jakarta.
He said the provincial government had taken into account the proposals of different parties regarding the minimum wage.
Jakarta workers will receive a "Worker Charter" which can be used to pay for public transport and receive food subsidies through the city's JakGrosir trading company.
"This card offers additional benefits for workers," said Anies.
The new minimum wage will enter into force on 1 January next year.
On Thursday, several unions organized demonstrations in the capital, demanding an increase between 10% and 15% compared to the current salary of 3.94 million Rp.
