The public prosecutor requested Thursday before the Charleroi Criminal Court a sentence of 18 months in prison, without opposing a reprieve, against Jesson D. The defendant, aged 35, is being prosecuted for having deliberately set fire to a pile of clothes and a washing machine in the bathroom of his ex-girlfriend in Binche. The 30-year-old admits being the cause of the fire.
On September 2, 2020, the Anderlues-Binche police zone was called to the home of the defendant’s ex-companion in Binche. Neighbors reported smoke coming from the victim’s home.
“The fire had been started in the bathroom. The victim was absent from his home. Since the breakup of the couple, the defendant could not bear the situation. He entered her home with a duplicate of the keys in search of proof of his new romantic relationship”, underlined the substitute Brichet during the indictment.
Jesson D. is in admission of the facts. “I messed up that day. It was a bad time. I noticed that she hadn’t slept at home and I lost my mind. I set fire to a blouse with a lighter.“
The public prosecutor requested an 18-month prison sentence against the defendant, without however opposing a suspended sentence. Me Brocca, counsel for the defendant, pleaded a probationary suspension of the pronouncement. “He is not an arsonist. It was a complicated breakup for my client. A week before, he had been discovered drunk in the garden shed of the victim’s home.”
Judgment will be delivered on February 10, 2022.
