Mainz / Berlin (dpa) – The Rhineland-Palatinate CDU chairman and Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner (46) has married her partner Ralph Grieser.
As the CDU regional association announced in Mainz, the couple gave themselves last Saturday in South Africa the yes-word. Klöckner wore white, Grieser (born 1970) a light blue suit.
The minister and the manager of a vintage car center in Mülheim-Kärlich had married in a small circle with friends, said a CDU spokesman. Only the family and close friends had been initiated. Instead of gifts, the bridal couple have set up a donation account for good causes. The money will be used to help children with cancer and their families, as well as suffering families and the vocational training of African youth.
During the "VOR-Tour der Hoffnung" – a charity bike ride for children with cancer and needy children – the couple had met. Earlier, the "Bild" newspaper reported on the topic.
The former German wine queen, who is also deputy CDU federal chairman, grew up in the family winery in Guldental an der Nahe. From 2002 to 2011 she was a Member of the Bundestag and from 2009 to 2011 State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture. The entry into the Mainz State Chancellery missed her twice.
