Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, who in Ammonite playing a love couple figured out for themselves what their sex scene should look like. The two actresses felt very comfortable in front of each other, unlike director Francis Lee, Winslet says in a Wednesday interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“We invented the choreography for the scene ourselves,” says de Titanicactress about the most explicit scene in which they can be seen.
“Saoirse and I just felt really comfortable, I think. Francis was obviously very nervous. So I said to him, ‘Look, we’ll do it.'”
The two actresses looked at what the scene should look like together. “We start here, we do it like this with kisses, breasts, you go down, then up again”, Winslet describes the collaboration with her co-star.
“We set the rhythm of the scene so that it could support the story. I’ve never been more proud of a love scene than this one,” says the actress. “In any case, I have never felt so little self-aware.”
In the film, 44-year-old Winslet plays the role of paleontologist Mary Anning, who falls in love with a young, wealthy London woman. The 26-year-old Ronan, known for, among others Lady Bird in Brooklyn, is her co-star in the film.
Ammoniteset in England in the first half of the nineteenth century, is directed by Lee, who previously wrote the drama God’s Own Country made.
