Khadija and Cherive, two conjoined babies from Mauritania, are successfully separated at the San Joan de Déu Hospital

Two conjoined babies from Mauritania that were joined at the abdomen have been successfully separated after the operation to which they were subjected this Wednesday in the Sant Joan de Déu hospital in Barcelona.

The two sister’s, Khadija y Cherivewere born on October 8 joined at the top of the abdomen, with a single umbilical cord and a combined weight of 5.2 kilograms.

At the end of October they traveled to Barcelona on an Army medical plane, accompanied by family members, military doctors and health personnel from Sant Joan de Déu, to undergo surgery at this Barcelona center.

After the relevant prior medical tests and preparations, hospital sources have detailed to EFE that the operation was carried out this Wednesday and that it took “as planned”.

A team of 20 professionals from different disciplines participated in the intervention, which lasted 5 hours.
