King opens exhibition about controversial Golden Coach after years of restoration

The carriage was last used in 2015 during the traditional ride on Prinsjesdag. After that, years were spent on the restoration of the carriage from 1898.

The Golden Coach was a gift from Amsterdam to Queen Wilhelmina in honor of her inauguration. For the first time since its construction, the carriage has been completely disassembled and thoroughly examined. In some places, the wood and leather work, the textiles, the wheels and the gilding have been restored by specialists from home and abroad. The cost of the restoration, about 1.2 million euros, will be borne by the king.
