German Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool coach, spoke of his Senegalese player Sadio Mane being awarded the African Footballer of the Year award for the 2019 Confederation of African Football, indicating that he deserves to win the award.
Klopp said: “I think in the last three years we have always had the best player in Africa, twice for Mohamed Salah in a row – and he always deserved it – and this year he was Sadio, and he deserves it too.”
“It is really nice, we all know how the world works and it gives the club a huge boost in this part of the world 100%, and that’s good, and I love this fact,” he added in comments reported by the official website of Liverpool, Friday.
He continued: “These boys, first and foremost, are solely responsible for the development that they have made. They were good players, really good players before joining the team, and that was the reason we contracted.”
He explained: “We do not prefer this project in which it is said (let’s take a look at whether it will succeed or not).”
“We are convinced at the moment that we contracted with them that they could help us and push the team forward, or push the other player in the same position or so, and all the players succeeded to a great extent,” he said.
