Kontaveitová – Beguová 7: 6, 6: 4, Estonian finished waiting for the second title after four years, Svitolinová also triumphs

Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit won the US Open at the Cleveland tournament. The second player in the final defeated Irina-Camelia Begu from Romania 7: 6, 6: 4 and after four years ended the waiting for the second title in her career. Until now, she rejoiced only in 2017 on the grass in Hertogenbosch. Ukrainian Elina Svitolinová finished almost a year waiting for the next title at the tournament in Chicago. The highest-ranked player and bronze medalist from the Olympic Games in the general finals at the US Open defeated the Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet 7: 5, 6: 4 and expanded her collection by the 16th trophy.

Kontaveitová, the world thirty, has already applied for the trophy twice this year, but she was able to take advantage of her third final participation.

The defeat of Kateřina Siniaková from the quarterfinals won the opening set in a tie-break 7: 5, in the second she was already watching the win. Begu, who played in the finals for the first time this season, did not expand her collection of four titles.

World No. 6 Svitolin started on a wild card in Chicago and before the New York grand slam, after previous unsuccessful starts in Montreal and Cincinnati, she set the winning note. She last enjoyed the tournament victory last year at the end of September in Strasbourg.

Cornet, the quarterfinal conqueror of Markéta Vondroušová, was defeated by Svitolinová for the fifth time in the eighth match.
