The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodrìguez Larreta, Unveiled new measures for older adults living in the city to prevent them from catching the coronavirus. The details of the same were outlined after the meeting that the official held yesterday with President Alberto Fernández and the governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, and in videoconference with all the governors of the country.
At a press conference, Larreta said that there are 30,000 volunteers signed up to help adults over 70 who live alone or have no relatives and announced a series of protocols for those living in deprived neighborhoods. “This is going to be a top priority“, said the Buenosairean agent chief executive.
“The best way to help and care for them is to stay at home. There is no excuse or reason that older adults go out. That is why we are going to accompany them, we are going to provide assistance with our network of volunteers, “said Rodríguez Larreta. In the city of Buenos Aires there are 490,000 adults over 70 years of age.
The actions that the government will take to care for the elderly are:
- A distancing and assistance program, specially oriented to the residents of the most vulnerable neighborhoods.
- The “Greater Care” network which has already gathered more than 30 thousand volunteers to assist and accompany them.
- An agreement with Building managers affiliated to SUTERH so that they are the ones who cover the basic needs such as buying medicines, water or food from neighbors over 60 and the population at risk, and preventing them from having to leave their homes.
- A agreement with banks and delivery companies to facilitate collection of assets by cards, payment of services and deliveries of basic products. Together with the chambers that group the Banks, the delivery of activated debit cards for the elderly was agreed to facilitate the collection of assets and the payment of all kinds of services.
“The best prevention measure in physical distancing, and also for people over 70 years of age. At the same time, it cannot be neglected to maintain an emotional bond to make isolation more bearable. For this reason, the Buenos Aires Government works together to the community to implement an elderly care network made up of family members, neighbors, civil society organizations, among others, with the intention of maintaining or improving his well-being and helping him in the material organization of daily life, “it was stated from the Buenos Aires Government.
