Have you ever accidentally deleted WhatsApp messages and were upset about that? Don’t worry, there’s a way to recover it, one way to recover those deleted messages is to restore the chat saved in iCloud or Google Drive backup.

Before trying the steps, always remember that you can only restore chats if the backup option was enabled in the first place on WhatsApp, and this means that if you have not backed up your chats before, you will not be able to retrieve any messages or chats you have deleted.

Steps to restore the chats scanned via cloud backup, according to what was published “the seventh day”:

Delete WhatsApp app from your phone, whether it is running Android or iPhone.

Reinstall the application and set it up using your phone number. Once the application is set up, you will receive a question whether you want to restore messages from the cloud backup.

This backup will be from Google Drive on Android or iCloud on iOS. Click Restore. This will restore the messages you accidentally deleted. Note that if you receive a message after the most recent cloud backup and delete it, it cannot be restored.

Steps to recover deleted WhatsApp conversations via Android internal backup

Go to the File Manager on your phone (download the files app from Google if you cannot find this app).

Then go to the WhatsApp files folder and then the database.

The database folder contains all the backup files for WhatsApp stored internally in your phone. Choose the msgstore.db.crypt12 file and rename it to msgstore_BACKUP.db.crypt12.

This is your most recent backup file and you will need to rename it to prevent copying over it. In case something goes wrong, you can always rename this file with its original name and restore it.

You will now see a set of files in this folder as msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12.

There you will find the oldest backups for WhatsApp, and you can choose the most recent one and rename it to msgstore.db.crypt12. Here comes the important part, since you have to open Google Drive in your phone, then press the hamburger icon (the three vertical lines) then the backups Backups Now delete the WhatsApp copy there, this action will force your phone to restore from the internal backup as an alternative to that.

Then delete WhatsApp and then reinstall it. Set up the app, and as soon as it’s done, you will see a message to retrieve conversations from the internal backup as your phone does not have a chat backup on the cloud.

Click Restore and that’s all there is to it, and you will get the backup copy of your deleted chats.
