Beirut – Lebanese Minister of Justice, Marie-Claude Najm, on Monday presented her resignation to the government, a few days after the explosion in the port of Beirut which left at least 158 dead and 6,000 injured.
“Faced with the tragedy that struck the nation in the heart of its capital Beirut on Tuesday, and faced with the pain of the Lebanese, and what we have witnessed in the form of demonstrations in the street and reactions that have confirmed that Lebanon has entered a phase which requires firm positions to preserve community peace and prevent the loss of more lives and property, I submit my resignation from the government, ”she said in a statement.
“My resignation from the government is in line with my conviction that staying in power in these circumstances, without fundamental change (…) will not lead to the reform that we have tried to achieve”, she specified.
This third resignation is in addition to that of the Ministers of Information and the Environment which had been announced on Sunday.
