Mick McCarthy on Bamford

Mick McCarthy talked about calling Patrick Bamford for the Republic of Ireland.

"I did not like it (Bamford) when he became a player in the league, because Murphy should have had him, because he scored 27 goals and was a league player and not a player on loan from Chelsea," McCarthy told the Irish press

"I have not had a chance to tell him (Bamford), but he will probably read it because I said it before."

"He's a top scorer, he's a top scorer, technically an excellent finisher and we do not have many," he said.

"To be honest, we do not have many who are playing."

McCarthy added: "I spoke with Patrick.

"I had to meet him at the Leeds game with QPR but he was injured and did not travel so I did not get a chance.

"But my intention is to meet him and have a chat, he wants to meet me, I would take him as a positive.

"I hope he did not let me go to Leeds to say he's not interested, it would be really disappointing!"
