The Argentine singer Leon Gieco called for a “peaceful solution” to the conflict between Israel and the Islamist organization Hamas and implored “the return of all hostages to their places of origin”, among whom is his nephew, Ron Scherman.
Gieco carried out this request in a video published on his official profile on the social network Instagram and also on X, formerly Twitter, in which the artist also performs a version of the legendary pacifist anthem “I only ask God”, his best-known song, which has been performed by artists such as Mercedes Sosa, Joan Manuel Serrat or Ana Belén and Víctor Manuel.
“As a musician always committed to peace and today overwhelmed by the extreme situation in the Middle East, by the blindness and harshness of politicians and by these acts of terror where the victims are always the peopleboth Palestinians and Israelis, I ask for a peaceful solution to this ancient and cruel conflict,” said the artist.
“For everything, everything. For war, nothing,” concluded the committed singer, who in recent decades has participated in concerts tribute to the victims from the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile (1973-1990) or the last Argentine military dictatorship (1976-1983).
Regarding the particular case of his nephew, kidnapped in Israel, Gieco asked for the young man’s release “for the love that unites us as a family and for the universal love that must never die.”
