Lille coach Christophe Galtier: ‘The match against Ajax has touched us’ | Football

Ajax fell behind in the first leg in Lille last Thursday, but turned the game around in the final phase. The formation of trainer Erik ten Hag stepped off the field as the winner due to late goals from Dusan Tadic and Brian Brobbey. The team from Amsterdam obtained a good starting position for the return of next Thursday. „The result of the first game really touched us. We had great expectations for our home game ”, says Galtier on his club’s website.

Lille did win in the French league on Sunday. On a visit to Lorient, the Ajax opponent recorded a 4-1 victory and remains the leader in League 1. This victory gives Galtier confidence. “The victory ensures that we maintain our momentum. After the match against Ajax we were disappointed, but I liked what I saw on Sunday. It was our most controlled match of 2021. ”

Lille can again appeal to midfielder André in Amsterdam on Thursday, who is returning from a suspension. “We will have to approach Ajax differently than last Thursday”, Galtier knows. “We played way too carefully. We showed too little aggression and made insufficient use of our speed. ”
