The Black Sea is blockaded by the Russian Navy and grain must be transported by rail to Poland and Romania, which currently do not have the necessary facilities to store and then distribute all of Ukraine’s grain. It is estimated that the harvest could fall by 35% this year, and prices will rise.
Serhiy Ivashchenko on the state of Ukrainian grain exports
“If last year we had a total of 106 million tons of grain and oil crops, then this year and this summer we will have almost 70 million tons,” explained Ivashchenko. “A lot of tractors and combines are stolen by the Russians. Even the crops are stolen by the Russians. Now we calculate all the losses from the war, and we see a pessimistic forecast that the losses are almost more than 20 billion dollars.”
