Mahfud Md Says MUI Members Arrested by Densus 88 have been under surveillance for a long time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md said the Special Anti-terror Detachment 88 of the National Police Headquarters had long been monitoring Ahmad Zain An-Najah, a member of the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) who was arrested on terrorism charges. He said the Densus had been very careful before arresting the perpetrators in West Java, on November 16, 2021.

Densus 88 it already did surveillance it’s been a long time. Everything is being followed slowly,” Mahfud said in his statement, Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Because of that, he said various accusations that Densus had carelessly arrested people to the point of violating their dignity MULTI-FUNCTION is wrong. Mahfud also denied that this arrest showed that the government was in conflict with the MUI.

“No. We and the Ulema Council are close to each other and agreed to fight terrorism, said Mahfud.

Mahfud said Densus could not arrest just anyone. Prior to arrest, they must have strong evidence in accordance with Law number 5 of 2018 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.

Therefore, he asked the public to believe in the current legal process. Mahfud called this arrest as a preventive measure to prevent further acts of terrorism in Indonesia. If it turns out that the arrest is not proven, Mahfud invites the community to resolve it through the law.

“Don’t say that the government has cheated. This is a government that is being accused. There used to be a bomb exploded, they said the government was stupid, until the bomb exploded in Makassar, Surabaya. If the government acts faster, this government is arbitrary. Let’s just be proportional,” he said. Mahfud Md.
