LONDON (Reuters) – Police say the only suspect for the stabbing of three people in the English city of Manchester, in New Year's Eve, was detained under the Mental Health Act.
The police in Greater Manchester said in a statement Tuesday evening that the 25-year-old arrested on the scene was evaluated by the medical staff before the decision was reached.
The police are treating it like a terrorist attack. They say investigations are under way and they do not believe others are involved in the attack.
The suspect has not been identified. He is accused of stabbing three people including a police sergeant at a Manchester station Monday night while shouting Islamic extremist slogans.
Two of the victims are still hospitalized.
