Maroc Telecom unveils major ambitions in Chad for 2022
Since 2019, the 3G and 4G coverage rate has remained below the average in Chad, 48% and 22%. As the demand for broadband connectivity has grown since last year with Covid-19, Moov Africa Tchad has decided to invest to change the situation.
The Maroc Telecom group will invest in large-scale projects in Chad in 2022. These were presented on Thursday, November 18 in N’Djamena during a press conference organized by Mohammed Dkhissi, the general manager of Moov Africa Tchad. These include the installation of new stations which will bring the total number to 720 by the end of 2021; strengthening of the 3G and 4G network; modernization of equipment in the city of N’Djamena; strengthening transmission capacities in Kanem province.
« In 2022, the city of N’Djamena will be full in optical fiber. We sincerely want to make big investments so that the transmission medium is reliable throughout the country. We want to be professionals in the telecommunications sector, we have the will to build Chad’s network to international standards », Declared the general manager of Moov Africa Tchad.
Moov Africa Chad is currently operating in a national telecoms market that it shares with Airtel. According to the latest data published in 2020 by the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (Arcep), the Maroc Telecom subsidiary held 52.6% of the market share against 47% for Airtel. But it had a lower rate of 3G and 4G coverage. We have respectively 43% and 19% for Moov Africa Tchad against 48% and 21.8% for Airtel.
As the demand for connectivity grows, sparked by the Covid-19, the objectives of the various investments planned by Moov Africa Chad are: to improve the quality of telecom services in the country and to offer the populations a higher level telecoms experience from the start. ‘next year. The telecoms company is also targeting an increase in its turnover which was 72,873,496,477 FCFA (125 million USD) in 2020.
