Matvienko has declared his willingness to restore air connections with Kiev
If the Ukrainian leadership proposes to resume flights with Russia, Moscow will respond positively. This was reported to journalists by the spokeswoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, reports the daily report.
According to the speaker, the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to stop the flights was taken in 2015 "anti-people". Matvienko also noted that the issue of restoring air communication will require technical study and consultation.
Previously, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called strange the lack of air connections between the two countries, stating that this leads to the failure of Ukrainian airlines.
In 2014, Kiev imposed sanctions against 27 Russian airlines, asking them about $ 5.3 million due to flights to Crimea. In October 2015, Ukraine interrupted air communication with Russia, Moscow responded in a mirror. In July of this year, the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko announced Russia's willingness to negotiate the restoration of air service. Subsequently, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladislav Krikli noted that to resume flights it is necessary to have a "suicidal attitude". In response, the Federation Council stated that the ban mainly concerns Ukrainian citizens.
In late September, Ukraine International Airlines stopped operating its direct flights between Kiev and Nursultan due to the need to fly in Russian airspace.
