A story that began 43 years ago
Mauro Romano was kidnapped in Racale, in Salento, when he was 6 years old. It was June 21, 1977. Today the mother is certain that she recognized her child in Sheikh Mohammed Al Habtoor. Two scars rekindle the woman’s hopes. The sheikh has always refused to undergo the DNA test but Mauro’s parents will soon fly to Dubai to have the test carried out through the intercession of the consular authorities.
The alleged kidnapper has been identified
The investigators, thanks to the tenacity of the Romano family and its lawyer, after years of misdirection and silence, however, led to the alleged kidnapper of Mauro Romano. It would be a 79-year-old former barber, for whom the investigating judge will have to decide on the indictment: a family friend whom Mauro called “uncle” and who on the day of his disappearance, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, made Mauro get on his Apecar and he took him to his summer house to play with his son. This, according to the accusation, awaiting delivery to two individuals, unknown to date, who then took him by force, making all traces of him disappear.
