RiderTua.com – Maverick Vinales says it is very difficult to understand the Aprilia RS-GP22 bike… While his team-mate managed to finish 4th in the season opener in Qatar, Vinales is still struggling with difficulties on the RS-GP22. After finishing 12th at the Qatar 2022 GP, the 27-year-old said, “The result is certainly disappointing. It certainly didn’t live up to my and the team’s expectations. I didn’t make any mistakes in the race, nor did I experience any major tire wear. But I also couldn’t find a strong rhythm. I never found the right feeling with the front end and had a hard time entering the corners. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, we have to get to know this bike better.”
Maverick Vinales: Very Difficult to Understand RS-GP22
BTW, while still with Yamaha, Maverick Vinales managed to win the 2021 Qatar GP. He also finished the 2022 Sepang test in 5th place and the Mandalika test in 8th position. Starting the race at the Losail circuit, starting from 19th on the grid and finishing in 12th place with 4 points. Obviously Vinales was disappointed, especially as team-mate Aleix Espargaro confirmed the Aprilia RS-GP22’s performance in a strong pre-season test with a 4th place finish.
The Spanish rider said, “It’s quite heavy. If I’m honest, after the test I hope to be at the forefront. But that’s the reality now. I’m trying to understand Aprilia but it’s very complicated. We worked hard and tried a lot, but it didn’t work. I had a hard time at every corner.”
Where exactly is the problem? “The problem comes from the front, I’ve suffered in the tests at Sepang and Mandalika and in Qatar the problem is getting bigger. My front wheel collapsed and I couldn’t push,” Papa Baby Nina replied.
“The only way is to work and keep working. We have to try and keep trying, but it’s not easy on a race weekend. One session is only 40 minutes, so we can’t change too much in 1 day. I think after this series, the time has come where we need to understand some things.” Vinales.
